Rooted in an early morning plein air study along the Green Lake shoreline at Interlochen Center for the Arts, I later created Cotton Candy Coast on a much larger canvas that expands that quiet lakeside start into a vibrant, immersive space. Golden grasses anchor the foreground carrying the eye toward moving water, slender reeds breaking the surface, and the soft presence of the tree line. Tracing the water's edge, luminous pinks light up the shoreline bringing an unexpected warmth and playfulness to that grounded, early-hour sense of reconnecting with the land.
Details: 48H x 48W acrylic on canvas | 49H x 49W framed.
Frame: Handmade, custom solid maple floater frame finished with a hand-rubbed natural beeswax.
It's hard not to be inspired by nature. I'm always looking for that next scene to paint, noticing how a place makes me feel, looking at light and shadow, taking photos, and capturing that feeling on the canvas. And, of course, always seeing everything in full, vibrant color.
