Far Afield was inspired one early morning heading home from northwestern Michigan with the sunlight just beginning to break across the fields and a whole day of driving ahead. That red barn was an easy reason to pull off onto the shoulder—a strong, silent anchor against rolling swathes of gold and green, framed by the silhouette of an irrigation pivot and hills in the distance. Done in a long horizontal format, this painting holds onto that quiet, early morning calm and the sense of possibility for the day ahead.

  • Details: 12H x 36W acrylic on canvas | 13H x 37W framed.

  • Frame: Handmade, custom solid oak floater frame finished with a hand-rubbed natural beeswax.

It's hard not to be inspired by nature. I'm always looking for that next scene to paint, noticing how a place makes me feel, looking at light and shadow, taking photos, and capturing that feeling on the canvas. And, of course, always seeing everything in full, vibrant color.
