Two Crows for Luck pulls straight from a trip to the North Carolina Outer Banks watching an old cottage that had slipped off the beach and toward the surf, waiting to be taken down. Playful strokes of turquoise and warm yellow ochre bring the weathered structure to life, while a pair of crows claim a perch right along the roofline. Borrowing its name from the classic "One for Sorrow" counting rhyme, the piece balances coastal impermanence with a spirited, lighthearted mood. It’s got that raw, breezy Outer Banks atmosphere where the Atlantic redraws the map and the wildlife make themselves right at home anyway.
Details: 5H x 5W acrylic on paper mounted on 6H x 6W cradled board.
It's hard not to be inspired by nature. I'm always looking for that next scene to paint, noticing how a place makes me feel, looking at light and shadow, taking photos, and capturing that feeling on the canvas. And, of course, always seeing everything in full, vibrant color.
